Diabesity -
noun: diabesity used to refer to a form of diabetes that typically develops in later life and is associated with being obese.

Group of scientists from Kyoto University, Japan has investigated if supplementation of hydrogen-rich water improves lipid and glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance.

Intake of molecular hydrogen was associated with a trend of decreased concentrations of LDL and free fatty acids, and increased plasma levels of:

  • adiponectin (low adiponectin levels are associated with obesity),
  • superoxide dismutase (SOD) which is is one of the body’s primary internal anti-oxidant defenses, and plays a critical role in reducing the oxidative stress implicated in atherosclerosis and other life-threatening diseases.

Authors suggest that supplementation with molecular hydrogen have a beneficial role in prevention of Type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance.
